Catana 42 - David Lockwood - 4The Catana 42 continues to garner international acclaim with the catamaran being recognised in the prestigious US Cruising World Boat of the Year awards.

The speedy multihull won the “Best Midsize Multihull Under 50 Feet” category against strong competition.

Awards judge Mark Scrader said the Catana 42’s design appealed to those who like to push the limits of multihull sailing while still enjoying excellent onboard comfort.

Catana 42 - David Lockwood - 6“I found the steering, the hardware and the metalwork all to be excellent. The target demographic here is ‘real’ sailors. And this boat sails very well,” Mark said.

Fellow judge Ed Sherman was particularly impressed by the Catana 42’s helmstation. “It’s got a different helm situation than virtually all of the other multihulls that we tested, in that they’re located well aft and outboard. I found it to be a comfortable location,” Ed said.

“It’s allowed them to do some interesting things with the way the canopy over the cockpit area is set up. It’s elevated and has an opening with a view forward. Add that to the panoramic view from either wheel, to port or starboard, and you have very good visibility,” he said.

Awards judge Tim Murphy said the Catana 42’s construction was also a major factor in the boat’s success.

“Catana has also evolved with their construction techniques and are building boats using the SCRIMP process,” said Tim.

“They’re putting carbon into the structural components of the hull which is also relatively new. And they’re using foam-cored furniture. So they’re really paying attention to weight throughout this boat”, he said.

“Long term, I think that the SCRIMP hull construction technique is going to enhance the value of the boat, and that’s important.”

The Catana 42 recorded nearly 22 knots during European sea trials, and the fiery catamaran continues to demand attention from buyers, media and industry experts alike with its ability to harness the slightest gust and deliver fast and outstanding offshore performances.

The Catana 42 sails at incredible speeds due to the comprehensive range of technical innovations, exclusive to the Catana shipyard. The catamaran’s unique beam/length ratio, adjustable daggerboards, tilted and tulip-shaped bows, aerodynamic coach-roof and torpedo-shaped hulls make it a revolution in the marine industry.

At the cutting edge of recreational boatbuilding, the carbon infusion process, now standard on all Catana models, ensures that the Catana 42 is an incredibly high-performance, light and resistant boat. At 20 knots before the wind, and 12 knots into the wind, the catamaran offers its passengers an unrivalled level of comfort and safety for a boat of this size.

The Catana 42 has an ambient and spacious interior with 360° panoramic views from generous windows. With direct access to the cockpit, its saloon is the hub of the boat and is equipped with an abundance of storage space. The light-filled cabins, excellent ventilation, contemporary interior design, thermal and audio insulation all come together to make life on board easier and more comfortable.
