Fountaine Pajot unveils new Saba 50 sailing catamaran

Posted: Friday 27 December, 2013.

Saba 50 - 2Fountaine Pajot has just launched the new Saba 50, elevating performance cruising to an entirely new level of style and affordability.

The Saba 50 replaces the successful Salina 48 and has been designed to optimise living space while delivering outstanding performance at sea.

The catamaran shares the elegant lines of the shipyard’s Hélia 44 catamaran and has upgraded features including additional panoramic portholes to enhance the natural light and ventilation.

The Saba 50 has enormous living areas making it ideal for extended cruising ventures and entertaining family and friends. The spacious saloon is accessed via an extra-wide entry door that seamlessly integrates the indoor and outdoor spaces, and features new skylights plus a spectacular panoramic window that encases the saloon and provides exceptional views and natural light. The L-shaped galley overlooks the saloon and cockpit, and boasts an abundance of storage space, a 190 litre fridge with draws, and is adjacent to the convenient forward-facing chart table.

The Saba 50 has been designed with multiple relaxation areas including a luxurious 12.4m2 upper lounge deck that is equipped with a chaise lounge and two sunbathing decks. The generous cockpit features a large lounge, extra sofa, dining table for 12 guests, and there is also an option for a huge sunbathing lounge on the fore deck.

The helmstation enjoys 360 degree visibility and excellent protection from the elements, and has easy access to the cockpit and upper lounge deck. All lines are ergonomically controlled for ease of handling, and embedded solar panels are conveniently located on the upper aft deck.

The catamaran has remarkable volumes in each of its cabins, with the master suite in the Owner’s version taking its inspiration from chic city hotels. It features a queen size island bed, a sleek open-plan ensuite with separate shower, desk and ample storage. The master suite is a beautifully light courtesy of the revolutionary large new porthole, panoramic aft windows and skylights.

The Saba 50 is available in two layouts: The Owner’s (Maestro) version comprises the large master suite on the portside plus three spacious guest cabins that each have their own private ensuites; and the Standard version that features five guest cabins plus a skipper’s cabin, each one also enjoying a private ensuite.

Each version also has the option to fit out both forepeaks to create additional crew or single guest accommodation.

Worldwide demand for the Saba 50 is expected to be strong, and Fountaine Pajot will only be releasing four catamarans for order to the Asia Pacific region in 2014.

Multihull Solutions managing director Mark Elkington said the Saba 50 is the perfect catamaran for the cruising grounds of the Asia Pacific and anticipates the orders will be filled quickly.

“Its incredible use of space, numerous outdoor living areas and excellent sea-going performance make the Saba 50 ideal for our regional cruising environment,” Mark said.

“With a release base price of AUD $875,000 for delivery in France or AUD$1,155,000 for delivery in Australia with taxes paid, it is also very competitively priced and allows buyers to get far more for their money than many other multihulls in its class,” he said.
