Private or charter multihulls large and small are welcome to enter! If you do not own a multihull or relocating your multihull to the Whitsundays is not practical, please consider chartering from one of the many Whitsunday Charter Operators.
2010 Event Details:
Date: 28 August to 3rd September 2010 Venue: Sailing out of Airlie Beach, The Whitsundays, QLD, 4802 Organising Cub: Abel Point Yacht Club
About the Event:
The 2010 Multihull Rendezvous is set to become the biggest and best in the event's history, catering for serious racers as well as the laid-back cruising sailors.
This year's event will feature a Rally Division for cruisers, as well as an OMR (racing) and PHS (fun racing) divisions.
The new Cruising Rally division will incorporate fun racing through the islands with stunning anchorages and group dinners ashore at the popular Whitsunday island resorts.
Set against the magnificent waterways of the Whitsundays, the Multihull Rendezvous will again be sponsored by Multihull Solutions, ensuring it will continue to remain one of Australia's premier multihull events. Hosted by the Abel Point Yacht Club, the event will again feature the Warren Dickenson Memorial Trophy and an unforgettable calendar of social action - on and off the water!
You don't need to be a racer to enjoy all the fun and camaraderie of the 2010 Whitsunday Multihull Rendezvous. Just sign up and be a part of an unforgettable event that celebrates multihulls in one of the world's most magnificent sailing grounds!
NOTES: Those in the rally division do not need racing insurance as you are out for a sail with other multihulls not officially racing. Entries can use spinnakers or not - it does not matter. The only requirement is to have a good time.
History:
The first Multihull Rendezvous was organised from Laguna Quays, near Proserpine in the Whitsundays, in conjunction with the early days of the now-famous Hamilton Island Race Week. For a few years, multihulls were then permitted to participate in the popular Airlie Beach Race Week (formally known as Hogs Breath Race Week), which was a feeder race for the larger Hamilton Island event.
The multihulls division was dropped from the regatta after the boats enjoyed overwhelming media interest and great success in the event! For the next couple of years, the Multihull Rendezvous ran from Bowen and Airlie Beach, featuring great racing and sponsorship. The event grew with organisers Jo Djubal and Lachie Wilson recognising the benefit of aligning the event under the joint banners of the Abel Point Yacht Club and Whitsunday Sailing Club. With more sponsorship, new racing and cruising classes, and an emphasis on making it a fantastic social event, the Multihull Rendezvous soon enjoyed a great increase in entry numbers.
