The Windspeed range of Cats have always been know as a leading edge in catamaran design. Designed by the famous Lock Crowther with the assistance of the Brisbane Multihull identity Geoff Cruse they drew up this modern and advance range of catamarans. The WS 36 is constructed in light weight PVC foam wrapped in a Kevlar skin inside and out and then sheathed in fibreglass and using an epoxy resin.
Gold Rush has been set up as a comfortable cruising cat with 4 double berth cabins, It has a well spread out galley in the port hull which is open and airy and looks out across the saloon. The galley includes a big 4 burner stove with oven, a large and easy to access day fridge and then a enormous long term deep freezer as well. Plenty of storage and preparation areas too. In the starboard hull is a Navigation table which doubles as an office desk.
It is fitted with 2 x Yanmar diesels which drive these modern hull shapes easily through the water. On deck there’s davits for the 3.1m inflatable, there’s more than 11 Andersen S/S winches, a big Muir anchor winch, plenty of hatches for light and breeze when cruising the tropical north.
And the best thing is the way this boat sails, you will not find better and I can bravely say it will out sail Catanas and Outremers with ease. This is a true sailors vessel that is ready to start exploring the Great Barrier Reef and beyond.
What a beauty, one of my all time favourites.
