MisStress is a grand cruising vessel. I purchased her in 2013 from a WA couple who used her as a base at Magnetic Island. For 5 years, the owner of MisStress (both solo and crew) cruised between Cape York and Port Stevens each year, following the cruising seasons and spending the summer at Lemontree Passage Port Stevens, and Pittwater, where the majority of maintenance was carried out. She is super comfortable and a great all weather cat.

Despite sailing in 50 knots plus conditions she showed herself to be far more capable of handling the rough end of the weather spectrum than myself. The twin helms make for comfortable and well-positioned helm sailing. New Raymarine full detail (multi- functional actual & virtual wind speed as well as tack function) integrated wind instruments have recently been fitted to both helms and one internal mounted on the cockpit bulk-head. A new recently fitted Raymarine auto pilot and a Raymarine tri-data complete the instrument suite

The cat cruises beautifully and with a good wind, favourable seas and a broad reach, can achieve upward of 16.5 knots. Twin robust reliable 38hp Kubotas power MisStress and with clean fuel and regular service they have been trouble free. Under power with no tide or wind influence she cruises at 6.5 knots. The Sea Hawk folding props work well and have been regularly serviced and greased.

The galley and saloon area work well as a cruising combination and in rough weather it is a good place to be when cooking. Fitted with a Lorance HDS9 GPS, Chart, Sonar, Radar combination, it allows for safe and informed night and day navigation in any conditions.

The Rig has been inspected annually and is in perfect order with all stays (main and inner) replaced with Dynema over the last few years. The safety lines on the port and starboard stanchions have also been replaced with Dynema. Self-furlers on both foresails and a robust simple manual reefing system on the main makes for quick and reliable reefing operations. Harness lines run the full length off both hulls to allow safe and secure access to all point of the boat in rolling seas. Both the main and working jib have recently been to the sail maker for a tidy up and are in perfect working order. The lightweight screecher is in good working order and an asset on broad side sailing in up to 20knts wind speed.

The queen size double bunks amidships are perfectly positioned for a relaxing sleep, even in arduous conditions. Saloon seating upholstery has been recently replaced with new stain proof material with “sunbrella” covers available for extended cruising. Hatches are strategically placed to allow for maximum flow and the boat stays remarkably cool whilst on anchor. The marine specific ICEER freezer has twin upright compartments and has ample room to store caught fish as well as a month supply of food for remote excursions. Both fridge (also ICEER) and freezer work faultlessly and are both energy efficient and hold temperature well.

The new solar panels (2 X 250 watt) solar panels, coupled to a new intelligent solar 12V controller enable the boat to operate independently of back up generators. A bank of 8 x 150AH 6 volt HD deep cycle lead acid batteries (2 YO) ensure an adequate supply of 12 V power at all times. The intelligent solar system provides power to the house battery bank for the daily recharge and then defaults to running the freezer and fridge. A petrol gen set was previously required as a reliable back up, however since the fitting of the upgraded solar system is rarely used . The 2000Xantrax inverter provides 2000W of efficient 240 power and enables fresh Nescafe Coffe in the morning and low wattage 240V items to be used and or charged as required. Back to cabin anchor as well as forward winch controls allows for efficient and trouble free anchor and moving operations. Bright efficient LED low energy consumption lighting is fitted to the main working ares. The hot water system is 240V/engine manifold heated and provides endless hot water when coupled to shore power or when running engines. 25 L holding hot water tank is good for 4 quick showers with out starting the engine. Whilst fresh water storage is huge the water maker becomes invaluable in the more remote areas. Feeding into the aft starboard tank it is possible to run shower water off this tank and not deplete the other fresh water stocks. 3 hours running at 75L/ph allows the aft tank to be quickly filled. The water cleaner runs comfortably on the 240V/2000W gen set.

The rear davits securing the inflatable tender to the targa bar allows for quick and simple dingy handling and have proved strong and simple to operate.

A vinyl hull wrap has been recently completed and the hulls look like new once again. In general MisStress is an extremely reliable, comfortable and robust cruising cat. She has been meticulously maintained as a functional cruising, live-a-board boat. Her cedar plank hulls and proven Grainger design make her an ideal seaworthy and safe cruising vessel. I would have no hesitation in heading off on an intercontinental adventure with her, secure in the fact that she can handle all ordinary ocean conditions efficiently, reliably and safely.
