One month to Sail Mooloolaba 2012

Posted: 30th May 2012.

Entries are now starting to roll in for this year’s edition of Sail Mooloolaba.

The first weekend of 23rd and 24th June kicks off with the Sports Boats QLD State Championship, the European Cruising Challenge (spinnaker and non-spinnaker), Multihulls Cruising (spinnaker and non-spinnaker), Multihull Racing, IRC, Performance Racing and the Open Monohull Cruising (spinnaker) divisions. PRO Sylvia Talbot and her volunteer race management team are going to be busy!

First entries are in for the IRC division with locals Rod Jones entering his new Farr 30 and Gary McCarthy with his Beneteau 34/7. Multihull Cruising also has two entries from among the local fleet.

The Sports Boat division is the strongest group so far with 13 entries including Chris Bland from Royal Brighton Yacht Club in Melbourne. A further 15 entries are expected for this division.

In the middle of the week the Radio Controlled Yachts will be in full swing on the Mooloolah River with 17 entries ready to go on Tuesday 26th.

Wednesday 27th sees a more leisurely pace of sailing as the big boats head out for an afternoon of no spinnakers and no shouting for a Fun Sail around Mooloolaba bay.

On Thursday 28th it will be back to some serious stuff with the QLD Schools Match Racing Challenge.

On the second weekend, 30th June and 1st July, the dinghy division entries for the 505, Arrow Catamaran, Contender, Heron, Hobie 16, Laser, Laser 4.7, Laser Radial, Moth, Optimist, Pacer, Sabot, Sabre and open dinghy divisions are travelling slowly, so far. But, that will certainly change in the week prior to close of entries. The PRO for these events will be Alan Carlisle.

National Juror Neville Willis has been appointed the Protest Committee Chair.

Information on the logistics for all events has been posted to the event website. For more information on the regatta and for Notices of Race and entry details, go www.sailmooloolaba.yachting.org.au
