Leaving La Rochelle

Chris and Marian Morgan purchased a brand new Fountaine Pajot Lipari 41 in 2010 and decided to pick their boat up ex-factory in La Rochelle, France in March 2011. Since collecting the boat they have enjoyed some amazing adventures sailing through France, Spain, Portugal, Morocco and more. Here is a snippet of their travels …

From La Rochelle we headed down to Hendaye which is on a river with one side being French and the other Spanish so we sampled the food on both sides (France was better) before heading off along the North coast of Spain with a deadline of 2 weeks before we were due to pick up our son Patrick in La Corunna on the North West corner of Spain.

The North coast of Spain was stunning with the mountains coming down to the sea, great rocky headlands and cliffs and tiny fishing ports. We tried getting into some of these much to the surprise of the locals who would come out and watch but in many of them we were simply too big so had to carefully turn round and head back out. Where we could stop it was mainly very non touristy with few marina developments as most boats head directly to La Corunna and then on to the Med.
